I don't know how many of you is Otaku or Toys Collector here but I'm one of them. So when I came across with this article, I decided to blog it. Very interesting indeed.
Original Article:
A question that came up on the TFwire forums recently & is very applicable to any hobby. Do you consider your figure collecting (or anything else for that matter) a hobby or addiction? There is a very fine line between the two.
- Do you find yourself buying unnecessarily just to get a 'figure mix' when you haven't bought anything for awhile?
- How often do you spend money on figures?
- When you see a Limited Edition figure, do you get a tight feeling in your chest and a voice in your head say 'BUY IT!'
All these questions and some others come to mind. For that matter, how much have you spent on our figure collecting?
Question 1
It's kind of mix of both. I don't go & buy unnecessary toys even if I don't spend for quite a while. I only buy what I like, but if really I get very bored or in the mood of buying, I'll usually get myself a Gunpla to assemble. Of course the one that I like. Can kill time & it's pretty cheap anyway.
Question 2
Can't really tell since I only buy what I like. I can spend up to RM1000 a month & can go another few months spending less than RM200. It really depends on what coming out in the next few months & also my budget.
Question 3
This one is easy, my answer is NO. Again, I buy what me like. I don't usually go & hunt Limited Edition stuff's, but if my figure gets a run of LE, I'll compare what's the major difference between the two, if the difference is little, then no way I'm getting the LE.
Question 4
I did not count but it's certainly not less.
But what's bugging me was the Otaku Rule Number One. I did missed out on some figures last year & the 'A' always seen by me whenever I online & 'B' always prevented me from getting it & hence, 'C' is finally here. I could still call the hobby of mine a hobby (for now) but I'm afraid it'll slowly converting into addiction an issue afraid by most of brothers & sisters out there.
Have your own view on this matter (various hobby)? Have your say here!
